Ceefax was the first teletext service to go live, launching in September 1974. Run by the BBC, it would last until 2012 when it was lost to the digital switchover. It was superseded by BBC Interactive, later the BBC Red Button.
Made for the HBN Teksti-TV service to celebrate National Teletext Day on 23 September 2026. A pastiche of a classic 1990s Pages From Ceefax artwork that introduced the Travel News section.
Colin McIntyre was appointed Editor of Ceefax in 1974. Dubbed Mr Ceefax, he was born in Argentina and moved to the UK, where his father ran a cotton factory, to join the war effort.
This artwork was made shortly after McIntyre’s passing in May 2012.
